Baby Strollers are necessary. When you want to take baby out, it is advisable to have a stroller. Some people prefer carrying the child in a pouch but the weight can become heavy if you plan to go a long distance. Baby strollers are more convenient and practical. With the right stroller, you can load all of baby’s essentials. If this is your first baby, then you should research on the type of stroller to get. Some people have no choice as they are provided with a hand-me-down stroller from their family, relatives or friends. This is the cheapest approach but the stroller may not be what you want for the baby. If possible, try to get the stroller you want.

Choose a stroller that is stable and firm. Technology can scan the mother and check whether it’s a single baby, twins or even triplets. The normal birth is a single baby but it’s better to play safe and make sure before buying the stroller. Get a stroller which is durable and within your budget. If you can’t afford a durable stroller, you should consider just getting the hand-me-down. There is no point in spending money for a stroller that will not last unless you have no other choice. Choose the type that can be upgraded as the child grows. Your initial stroller should fit a small baby but as baby grows, you will need to adjust the stroller for the larger size.

The stroller should be easy to open and close. Try experimenting in the shop with one hand or one hand and see how easy is it. Try holding a weight on your other hand and simulate you are holding baby, Try checking if you can easily engage the brakes, adjust the harness and backrest, and access the basket easily. You should try all the gadgets with one hand to see if they can be opened and closed with ease. Try lifting the stroller. Some strollers may be safe and comfortable but too difficult to lift and carry.

Seat belt restraints are very important safety features and should be thoroughly checked out. Be sure the buckles are easy to lock and unlock and still be comfort able to the child. The unlock should not be so easy that it could get loose on its own. Check the adjustability of the belt and see that it can be secured around the baby’s waist and the crotch straps loop into the waist belt. It should be fastened so the baby cannot slip out of the fastenings. If you are jogging with a stroller, use a five-point harness.

Inspect the frame. A robust and strong frame, such as steel and aluminum will keep the stroller lasting for a long time but it might not be easy to maneuver nor carry around. Plastic is the other option but the wear and tear is faster. If you can carry heavy weights and may have other babies in the future, choose the stronger frame. Together with that comes the fabric around the frame. The fabric should be easy to remove and cleaned. The fabric should be easily replaceable as it might wear out fast.

The seat and canopy should have a wide range for adjustment. Check that the seat can be fully reclined so baby can sleep comfortable. The canopy should be able to cover the baby from all kinds of weather. One salient point is the storage space. You need enough space in the trolley to carry baby’s essentials, like bottles and diapers. Test if the stroller will tip over once it gets overloaded. Don’t plan to overload the stroller but test it as a safety precaution to see the risk.
The swivel wheels should be easy to turn and should have locking brakes. During those short instances you have to leave the stroller unattended, you should be able to lock it so it will not roll away. The handle of the stroller should be adjustable so people of different heights can hold on the stroller easily and comfortably. Take your time and choose well. Your baby’s life may be at risk.

Your baby will not remember anything about their first birthday. The celebration is more commemorative than anything else. It is a celebration of baby’s first year in the world. Birthday celebrations are remembrances of our coming forth into the world. It was the day we were blessed and sent forth to bring joy and happiness to our parents and loved ones. Babies will never know the immense joy and gladness of their parents as they came forth and uttered their first wail. In memory of that auspicious day, we celebrate our birthday yearly. It is a happy and joyous event and we share it with our loved ones and close friends and relatives.

This is the first of many birthdays to come and we should make it as memorable as possible. Baby will never know the efforts or extent we went through for the celebration nor the people who shared the happy event with us unless we capture the activities with our video cameras. The video cameras will enable us to capture all the activities that took place and the happy moments enjoyed by everyone. We should invite everybody close to us. This birthday celebration will happen only once and cannot be repeated again. Go through the guest list with a fine toothcomb and ensure its completeness. List all your relatives and close friends. Include acquaintances who were involved with the baby’s first year, like the doctors and child care people. When the grown-up child replays the videos, the child will remember the people involved in their early life.

Keep a count of the number of guests. Put a priority number beside the names, 1 being the most important and 5 being the lowest. Once you complete your list, check if the number of guests is within your budget. Remember you have to provide food and drinks for your guests. If it exceeds your budget, start thinning out the guests from the lists, starting with the least important until you arrive at a reasonable number of guests. Using a RSVP invitation will help you get a more accurate count later on.

Next would be the venue. Depending on the number of guests, you have to set a place that can accommodate them comfortably. Allow space for the food and drinks section. Have additional space reserved for other party activities. Set aside a play area for the children. Open areas like playgrounds or park grounds are nice venues but you need to monitor the weather closely. You wouldn’t want your party ruined by inclement weather. Make sure the area can be cordoned so the children do not wander away. Enclosed areas, like gymnasiums will be less hustle on your part and you don’t need to worry about the weather or boundaries of the party. Whatever your choice, make sure it is easily accessible with convenient parking facilities and clean lavatories. Include a map in your invitation.

Get a caterer for the food and drinks. It may be cheaper doing it yourself but you might not have the time and energy to attend to it. Remember you have other activities to handle and you need to socialize with the guests too. Try to get professionals that specialize on party arrangements and entertainment. They can take care of the balloons, decorations, furniture, entertainment and other party functions. It will take a load off your shoulders and you can focus on the enjoyment of your guests. Be sure to take pictures and videos of the party. Capture those memorable enjoyable moments and share them with your child in the future.

A baby should have at least two rooms, one for sleeping and the other for playing. The room where baby sleeps should contain all the clothes, bottles and other accessories for feeding, bathing and clothing the baby. The other room, commonly called the play room, is where baby can crawl and frolic as much as they want. It is also the place where they can play with their toys to their heart’s content. The furniture in the playroom will change over time.

While baby is crawling and learning to walk, the playroom will be carpeted to keep the baby safe when they topple over while trying to learn to walk. The furniture may be sparse and with rounded corners. During the stage when baby will be crawling actively, try to keep furniture that baby cannot crawl under or easily open and hide inside. Use toys that are not breakable as baby will be throwing the toys all over the place. The furniture drawers should be large enough to accommodate most if not all of the toys. As baby grows, they will be using a baby walker to learn walking. They will not be able to control their actions much and may be bumping into walls and furniture.

When the baby grows up, then the playroom furniture becomes more interesting and exciting to the child. Set up a small classroom environment in the playroom. The child can get attuned to going to school and practicing sitting in a chair in front of a table and blackboard. They will need small drawers or containers for the eraser, chalk, paper, pencils and crayons. If you see that the child has artistic tendencies like drawing, you can set up a painter’s section. Give the child an ambiance that will bring out their artistic talents. Place pictures and other works of art on the walls of the room. Be sure there are enough places for them to draw and paint otherwise they will be exhibiting their skills on the walls of the house.

Children will eventually look for activity toys like train sets and Legos. Moving action figurines are common toys for children. Boys look forward to GI Joe dolls while girls will grab the Barbie collection. Each of these toys have their own accessories and toy houses. The toy houses are usually large enough to contain the toy furniture.  There are a large variety of dolls that go with the collection. You will need shelves and large drawers to keep the toys. Use detachable shelves so you can easily adjust the room as the child grows and their interests change.

Children like to go inside the houses or tents. The tents are sufficiently large to hold several small children but small enough to fit inside the room. This is safer than setting up the tent outdoors as the vicinity might not be secure and safe for the children. Set it up indoors and pretend they are camping. Eventually they will need a table for a computer.  There are many games in the internet that can keep a child busy for hours.

As the child grows, you will be changing the playroom furniture according to their age and interests. Just be sure that when you get the furniture, it can be accommodated in the playroom.  Playroom furniture that keeps a room near and orderly and keeps the child busy is an ideal set-up.

Strollers are only needed when you have a baby. After that, it is stored away for the next child or given to somebody who needs it for the moment. Strollers are normal hand-me-downs until it finally gets broken and irreparable. The last one holding the stroller is tasked to get a new one and restart the hand-me-down process. What kind of stroller would you buy?

There are many types of strollers like regular, umbrella, and double in the market. They come with different features. Some features are very functional while others are nice to have but serve no real purpose. Some can be used in multiple ways. There are so many to choose from. What suits your need? Here are a few pointers when selecting strollers.
Remember the baby will be in the stroller. The primary concern is a stroller that is safe and comfortable for the baby. Safety and comfort go hand in hand. You shouldn’t settle for just one issue. The seat has to be padded and soft enough for baby but not too soft that the baby sinks on the cushions and gets smothered. It has to be snug but adjustable. Fitting the baby in the seat may help in your selection but keep in mind the baby has to fit in the stroller during their growing phase. Look for a stroller that can be adjusted for different sizes.

The stroller should have a dependable restraint system which secures the baby at the shoulders, waist and crotch. The baby’s movements are controlled. A secondary locking mechanism ensures that the stroller cannot fold while in use. If that is not available, ask the attendant what features in the stroller provide your desired safety measure. There may be times that the stroller will be left unattended. Be sure that the rear wheels have a reliable braking system to prevent rolling on its own.
Babies are curious and move around a lot. Be sure the stroller has no jagged or sharp edges. The designs may be nice but it might be risky for the baby. The frame should be stable and resistant to tipping over. Try pushing the stroller around the area and get a feel of its stability. There may be times you might overload the stroller. Try putting items in the pouches and see how well does the stroller stand up to the weight.

Once the safety and comfort of the baby are resolved, consider other factors. Consider the accessibility of the baby. Assess on how easy is it for you to get the baby in and out of the stroller.  Some strollers have bars that are can be removed in a single stroke. The adult should be able to fasten and unfasten the harness quickly. This is vital in case you have to take the baby from the stroller in a rush.

You will be bringing the stroller with you to different locations. Be sure it can be folded neatly and packed in the trunk. The stroller might be used in parks or department stores where you have to lug it up and down the stairs or escalators. Be sure the stroller can be easily carried or moved across with ease. Mindful of these considerations, you can now go and choose your stroller.

This is your first baby and you want only the best for the baby but expenses have been going up. You discuss it with your spouse and for practical purposes, you agree that cheap functional furniture may be the better option. Other parents go out of their way to get lots of fancy furniture for the baby not realizing that a portion of those furniture may never get used or used for a limited time only. Parents are the ones who get satisfaction in having fancy furniture for baby. They should take a step back and see if they can be just as satisfied with cheaper furniture.

Firstly, they should take an inventory of the type of furniture that would be needed in a nursery. The furniture should be functional and sturdy. You might want to have some décor which the baby can recognize as their sight gets better. Don’t go overboard on the décor. You should take into consideration safety, practicality and comfort.  The considerations should involve not only the baby but also the adults who will be moving around the nursery. It is not be advisable to choose furniture that are wobbly or can topple over with a slight bump.

There is a risk that objects on the furniture may fall and cause harm to people.
Choose furniture if you have a purpose or intention on using it. People may get enthralled with the design and craftsmanship of the furniture and purchase it just to find out later that they don’t have a need for it.  Be objective in your selections. Check on whether the furniture is comfortable. Vendors offer different designs of furniture but all serving the same purpose. For example, a crib has varied designs but all having the same purpose – which is for the baby to lie in.  Assess whether the baby will be comfortable in it and whether the adults will be at ease when they move around the crib to take care of the baby.

After you’ve gone through the selection of furniture, review them and sort them according to immediate necessity. There are some furniture which you need from the day the baby is born. Other furniture may be needed at a later date as the baby grows up. You can now prioritize the furniture to be bought and you can schedule the time when you will be needing them. This is a good way to budget your finances and still provide for the baby’s needs. Some of the immediate furniture may be the baby crib, dresser and changing table. Look at the possibility of a multi-function furniture, such as having a dresser and changing table as one furniture. It may be cheaper than getting two separate items and use up less space in the nursery.

This is your first baby and it would help to ask advice from those who have had babies of their own. Their experiences may help you determine the type of furniture and when you would be needing them. In addition, they may have some baby furniture that they no longer need and are in good condition.  Try publishing your needs. There may be people that are thinking of disposing of their baby furniture. Try the internet for discount offers. If you have the skill, try doing some of the furniture yourself. Not only will it be cheaper but it will be built according to your specifications.
This is your first baby. Will there be more coming in the near future? Be sure the furniture is built to last and you won’t have to worry about buying furniture for the next baby.

Does Your Baby Need Shoes?

Babies are always adorable when they have those cute booties. Mothers cannot help but buy that cute footwear in order to complete their baby’s get up. Aside from that, they provide the needed warmth whenever the family goes out for a little quality time. There is a question, though, if babies need to wear shoes once they begin to walk.

Previously, pediatricians advocated the use of footwear for babies that are learning to walk to help them form their feet better for locomotion. This has been disproved by a scientific research that resulted to a change in the use of footwear for babies. Letting him go barefoot is actually quite beneficial for balance. Observe your baby’s feet when he walks, especially on a smooth surface. His toes would actually curve to “hug” the floor so he would not slip. If he trips, don’t be too concerned and put on shoes. Some babies actually trip more when they wear either tough or soft-soled shoes.

By going barefoot, your baby will feel the difference between each surface that he walks on. He will be able to differentiate and appreciate the texture of smooth wooden surfaces, cool tiles, grass, and carpeted floors. This will help him in his development as he discovers what his feet can do.

There are times when your baby would need protection, especially during cold months. Do not splurge on those hard, fashionable shoes. What he needs are shoes that are both flexible and protective. A soft-soled shoes would be enough to give him the flexibility that he needs during walking, as well as protection from that rough and sometimes hot concrete floor. If you are concerned over the fit of your baby’s shoes, you can always have an expert measure his foot so you can have some custom-made shoes for him. Remember, though, that babies outgrow their shoes fast, so tell this to your shoe maker if you’re concerned about saving. Feel for the front toe of your baby’s feet when you’re fitting shoes. If you cannot feel his toe, it is most likely that the shoes you have fitted on him are too tight. Shoes of babies do not need “breaking in” to eventually be of good fit. If you have bought some good pair of shoes, double knot shoe laces so your baby won’t trip on them – or be able to remove them when they are still need to be worn.

What is most important is to consider your baby’s preference. If he prefers to wear shoes wherever he goes, you may let him. If he removes his shoes the moment he gets inside the house, don’t force him to keep it on. You will not affect his foot development any other way, so just put on those cute baby shoes for protection outdoors or on rough floors when necessary.

Play for babies is an important main activity for them. It is a way to learn new skills and gain experience.
Toys do more than just add fun. They are important to develop their physical, mental, intellectual, and social development. Baby toys at infant stage need to stimulate the senses of sight, sound and touch.
There are toys of all sizes and shapes displayed in shopping stores. Choosing a beautiful toy is easy but picking the right toys for your baby’s age is not. The following guidelines may help to choose the right toys for your baby.

0-3 months
These first months of your baby is occupied with more sleep and eat. More often, he will sleep for 14 to 24 hours! Little time is spent with other activities such as play. His sense of vision is quite limited for eight inches away from his face. As he grows, his sense of sight will become stronger. Contrast and bright colors fascinate him because they are easy and attractive to visualize. That is why newborns and infants love colorful mobiles that hang over the crib.
On the other hand, his sense of touch is keen already. He also learned to appreciate sounds and soft music. Musical toys that have happy and lullaby songs also fit for his age.

3-6 months
During this 3 month period, baby develops the skill of grasping objects. He discovers and develops the use of his hands. There is more movement as arms, hands, feet and mouth are actively used. This is when he starts to put anything he grabs into his mouth. Be sure to always stay with your baby and give him things that are not tiny to cause choking.
It is time to provide play with more interactions. Hand-and-eye coordination is stronger at this period. Encourage this skill by giving toys that can be held and manipulated. Best toys for 3-6 months include plush toys, rattles, rubber toys, colorful baby books, balls, stuffed animals, toy keys, blocks and stacking rings.

6-9 months
At 6-9 months, your baby is more active in play. He already learned to sit by himself and his skills will be more developed. He will explore more on his surroundings. He will develop fine motor skills such as pinching and grabbing objects using his two fingers. Object permanence will also develop at this period. Your baby will be picking up things and banging all sorts of objects, making noise and just to see the sound they make. Toys appropriate for 6-9 months based on the skills he developed are bath toys, pop-up toys, activity center, building blocks, music toys, and push and pull toys.
9-12 months (1 year)
Earlier skills learned from previous months will be more enhanced as he grows. Once he discovers a thing he enjoys doing, he tends to repeat it over and over. Already learned to sit, crawl, stand or walk with support, his activities will be more intense. He is much interested in interactive play and problem solving games.
Ideal toys for 9-12 months include picture books, texture toys, activity mats, boxes and cubes, and toys and games that develop language skills. Also, interactive and role-playing toys like shopping carts and telephones are suggested to enhance their developing interests and skills.
Providing your infants with appropriate toys for their age is an important responsibility. Babies love to play and spending time with them and all of their favorite toys serve as a bonding experience for the family. Giving baby age appropriate toys will give them the best possible foundation for mental and personal growth.

273 - walker
Sometimes, it is unavoidable for you to buy baby walkers. Even though it poses some safety issues, you still need it to keep your child entertained while you take care of dinner. So what should you look for in a walker to make sure that your baby is safe and secure?

First, do not buy second-hand walkers. If you must, check when they are made and ask the previous owner if it has any certification like “Meets Safety Standards” (ASTMF977-96). This safety standard ensures that the walker is built with a wide base that does not fit through standard-sized doors. Gates with child-proof locks are not enough to keep your child from going through them, and babies usually just ram their walkers through gates, causing them to lose their balance. As much as possible, buy only walkers that are made past 2001 for walkers before that year are made without much thought on infant and child safety.

Check to see if the collapsible elbows are working properly. Nothing is more alarming than to see your fast-trotting little angel falling face or head first because the collapsible elbows suddenly gave way. Make sure that the elbows are not constructed in a way that can cause pinching. A safe locking mechanism should be present to make sure that your baby’s fingers will not get pinched by his walker.

Your baby’s walker must have a safety brake in its wheels in order to prevent your baby from moving to another place while you go and fetch something. But to keep it in mind that this is just a temporary and very short measure in ensuring your baby is safe while out of your sights. Only do so when it’s really an emergency, and when you know you will only be gone for several seconds. Your child may get board or impatient and have it in his mind to follow you. Accidents still happen on a locked walker because the baby either violently shakes the walker in his frustration due to lack of motion, or when the baby tries to reach for something on the floor.

Look for a walker that can be adjusted according to your child’s height. You know you have adjusted the walker perfectly when your baby’s feet can still touch the floor while sitting. When your baby stands, the top should reach your baby’s waist. This lessens the probability of your baby tripping over the walker compared to lower walkers. A high walker will be difficult for your baby to push and can also pose some safety issues for your baby.

When you buy a baby walker, do not keep your baby in it for a long period of time. Allow his muscles to develop by letting him have some tummy time on the floor, or letting him walk assisted without the use of a walker. Make sure that you use the walker only on a flat, level surface to ensure stability safety, and never leave the walker near the staircase, fireplace, and near the kitchen. Block access to swimming pools, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and the backyard. If you have carpets, remove the snags, or have them replaced or removed entirely. Remember that your walker is not a baby sitter or a nanny that can control your infant. You or a caregiver are still responsible in seeing to your baby’s safety while inside a walker.
