It should be adequately large so the baby will not be tempted to put it in their mouths and swallow it.  Baby rings can also fit around the baby wrists. Be sure it is not tight.  There are different designs of baby rings. Take your time and look around before making a decision. Try looking for a baby ring that can function as a rattle or a teether. It can serve as a multi-function toy.
